Akkacchu, although of a Jain origin, she worshipped Goddess Raktheshwari Bhuta. She believed in Raktheshwari so much that the goddess made her ambassador. She also bestowed her with spiritual powers thus elevating her as Akkacchu bhuta, it is said. History has it that she could have been a queen and thus her name Akka Arasu. However, she ispopularly known as Akkacchu. In Gurupura staana House, near Maryhill, Akkacchu is worshipped with Raktheshwari Bhuta from time immemorial.(c)Dr Lakshmi G Prasad A divine dance (Kolam) is performed every year to please Akkacchu. Akkacchu comes across as a simple woman wearing saree and a bindi. She also holds a stick in her hand. But those worship Akkacchu believe that she protects them. (c)Dr Lakshmi G Prasad
